A motorist who crashed after going for a drive has been reported for breaking coronavirus lockdown restrictions

The unnamed driver's Ford Fiesta crossed a grass verge and hit a metal fence in Chelmsford, Essex on Tuesday evening.

Essex Police posted an image of the accident scene on Twitter.

“Driver of this car was bored so went out for a drive!" the force wrote.

The post added: “Us and the ambulance crew are both really busy and don’t need extra work. Another person breaching the regulations.

“Please don’t please stay home. Driver has been reported.”

It comes as the UK endures its third week on lockdown due to the global pandemic, with people ordered to stay at home for all but absolutely essential journeys.
