Details of what could become a Europe-wide Lotto-style draw were released last night by the National Lottery organiser, Camelot.

A jackpot prize of about €15m (£9.6m) will be on offer if the planned game – which will at first be played in the UK, France and Spain, and which Camelot announced in October – gets regulatory approval.

The draw, to be held every Friday night, has provisionally been called Euromillions for the UK and France and Euromilliones for Spain. Players will pay two euros, or about £1.30 in the UK, to play the game, which Camelot hopes to launch in the first quarter of 2004.

After this, lotteries from other European countries will be invited to join if they are given authorisation from their own regulatory bodies.
