Football club owner gives homeless men jobs after bumping into them on daily commute
Steel tycoon Glenn Tamplin employed the men at Billericay Town's arena
A football club owner has taken two homeless men off the street and given them jobs.
Glenn Tamplin, who runs Billericay Town in Essex and is the principal owner of AGP Steel, met the men several times on his way to work.
Speaking to the Mirror, My Tamplin said he had been buying the men food and coffee and chatting to them.
This week, he offered Richard, a former RAF engineer who served in the Falklands War, a job as a general caretaker.
Mr Tamplin also offered Ray, who was also sleeping rough, a security position at the football club’s arena.
The two men are currently sleeping on beds in a spare office, but Mr Tamplin said he was looking for alternative accommodation for them.
“I started wondering how I could change their lives for the better and decided this morning to give them both a chance,” he said.
Mr Tamplin said Richard will be responsible for maintenance at the ground, including plumbing and DIY.
“Ray is going to spend a few weeks with the current security team before taking on the job full-time,” he said.
“Seeing the tears in their eyes made me feel good but this morning was the easy part.
“Now I have to make sure they stop drinking and solve their issues in the long-term,” he told the newspaper.
