Detectives launched a murder inquiry today after a 26-year-old Turkish woman was shot dead.

Emergency services were called to reports of a shooting at a home in Kingsmead Way, Clapton, east London, at about 8.30pm yesterday.

They discovered the victim with fatal injuries and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said officers from homicide and serious crime command will take responsibility for the case today.

A post-mortem examination was due to take place this morning and the woman's family have been informed of her death.

Kingsmead Way is a road lined with five-storey blocks of flats that runs off Homerton Road, near Mabley Green, in Hackney.

The spokesman said police know the identity of the victim and no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
