Microlight pilot arrested after crash

The pilot of a microlight aircraft that crashed in woodland in Gloucestershire has been arrested on suspicion of flying while drunk, police said.

The aircraft went down in woodland in St Briavels Common, Brockweir at around 5.15pm after it took off from Teddington, Gloucs.

The pilot, a 39-year-old man from Cheltenham, and his passenger, a 38-year-old man from Quedgeley, were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries.

The pilot broke his leg and the passenger was suffering from back pain, Gloucestershire Police said.

Police arrested the pilot on suspicion of flying the plane without a licence and flying while over the alcohol limit. He has been bailed to return to Gloucester police station on June 23.
