Police have arrested a man after a 14-year-old girl was raped in a car she flagged down for help after an earlier sexual assault.

The 22-year-old from the Birmingham area has been questioned by detectives in connection with the second attack on the teenager, who was raped twice within hours last month.

He was taken into custody by British Transport Police (BTP) on Wednesday and has since been bailed pending further investigation.

The girl was first raped in a secluded part of the city's Witton rail station between 8pm on 25 July and 2am the following morning, police say.

Shortly after the attack she walked out of the station and flagged down a passing car to ask for help, but was raped a second time after getting into the vehicle. Detectives are treating the two rapes as separate incidents.

Police are also appealing to find the driver of a "people-carrier type car" who picked the victim up after the second assault and is believed to have given her a lift home.

A BTP spokesman said: "If you were that person, then please get in touch as soon as possible. You could hold vital information."

Khurram Rahi, 27, of Rosefield Road, Smethwick, West Midlands, appeared in court at the end of July charged with rape in connection with the first attack.

He is due to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on 28 August.

A 34-year-old man was also arrested last month in connection with the first rape and released while inquiries continue.

Anyone with information can contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40.
