An Iraqi-born man has been stripped of UK citizenship a second time on the orders of the Home Secretary, weeks after the Supreme Court overturned her original decision. It is believed to be the first time Theresa May has revoked the same person’s citizenship twice. MORE

Investigators to probe plane crash

Investigators arrived in Namibia yesterday to try to determine the cause of a Mozambique Airlines plane crash that killed 33 people. The Angola-bound plane crashed on Friday in a national park near the border with Angola. There were no survivors.

Demonstrators take to streets of Kiev

Up to 350,000 people were reported to have taken to the streets of Kiev yesterday to call for the resignation of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and protest at the fact that he has not signed a trade and integration pact with the EU. Dozens were injured. MORE

Woman’s baby was forcibly removed

The case of a woman whose baby was forcibly removed from her womb was described by rights groups as “the stuff of nightmares”. The woman was sedated and her baby delivered via Caesarean section against her will, after Essex social services obtained a court order. MORE

Osborne budgets for Downing Street dog

George Osborne has bowed to pressure from his son Luke, 12, and daughter Liberty, 10, and has bought a dog which will live with the family at 11 Downing Street. Lola, a Bichon Frise, was introduced on Twitter.

Four die in New York train disaster

A suburban New York train was derailed yesterday, killing four people and injuring 63, including 11 critically. All seven cars of a Metro-North train ran off the tracks on a sharp curve, officials said. As politicians lined up to pass on their sympathies, it was announced there would be an investigation into the cause of the early-morning crash. MORE

Lidl to take on ‘big four’ supermarkets

The retailer Lidl wants as many as 1,500 stores in the UK under plans to build on its recent growth. The firm currently has 600 stores and a 3 per cent share of the grocery market but the UK managing director, Ronny Gottschlich, has said that the chain will step up the pressure on the “big four” supermarket groups.

Farc rebels agree to play football match

The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, known as Farc, have appeared to accept a challenge from one of Colombia’s most famous ex-footballers to take part in a match to try and aid relations during negotiations between the government and the rebel group which aim to end a 50-year conflict.

Artist puts on first show at age of 99

Lifelong artist John Beck has opened his first public exhibition, at the age of 99. Mr Beck, from Cosheston, Pembrokeshire, said he was a “bit nervous” ahead of the show of his impressionist works at Tenby Museum and Art Gallery on Saturday.

Zoo names giant panda cub Bao Bao

The Smithsonian’s National Zoo is naming its female giant panda cub Bao Bao after receiving more than 123,000 votes online from the public to help give its new cub an identity. The name Bao Bao means “treasure” or “precious”.
