Britain's new pounds 106m gallery of modern art could cost taxpayers up to pounds 5 million a year. The proposed Tate Gallery of Modern Art on London's Bankside, which has already been given pounds 50m of National Lottery cash, will cost pounds 10m a year to run. Around pounds 4-5 million will need to come from either the Government, private benefactors or commercial sponsors.
