Sir William Reginald Verdon-Smith, of Bristol, Chairman of the Bristol Aeroplane Company and of the British Aircraft Corporation (BAC), Pro-Chancellor of Bristol University 1965 to 1986, left estate valued at pounds 733,660 net. He left pounds 2,000 each to St Mary Redcliffe Church, Bristol, and the Merchant Venturers Charitable Fund; pounds l,000 to St Peter's Hospice, Knowle; pounds 500 each to the Royal Cruising Club, the Rock Project, Lawrence Weston, the Grateful Society, the University of Bristol Botanic Garden, and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust; pounds 250 each to the Ancient Society of St Stephen's Ringers and the Dolphin Society.

Sir Edwin Porter Arrowsmith, of London SW6, a former Governor of the Falkland Islands and chairman of the Royal Commonwealth Society for the Blind, left estate valued at pounds 250,948 net. He left pounds 1,000 to the Royal Commonwealth Society for the Blind, and pounds 500 to the Flyfishers Club.

Miss Vivienne Gower Mylne, of Oxford, left estate valued at pounds 231,942 net. After leaving pounds 32,500 in personal bequests, she left her home and books not otherwise bequeathed to Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford; her collection of books printed before 1850 to Oxford University, for the Library of the Taylor Institute; all her Chinese effects to Durham University, for the Oriental Museum, all royalties from any of her books or tape recordings to the University of Kent, Canterbury, towards the purchase of books relating to the study of French literature; pounds 300 to the Sponsorship Department of the Save the Children Fund, for the benefit of Nellie Dadabhey Tangri; and the residue to Oxfam.

Commander Andrew Nigel Baird, of Hambledon, Hampshire, the Royal Navy Weapons Engineer, and a former British slalom skiing champion, left estate valued at pounds 180,138 net.
