Donald Trump should not be allowed to participate in Republican presidential debates, says top donor
Trump continues to stir controversy over his comments about Mexican immigrants
One Republican donor apparently has heard enough from Donald Trump and wants the Republican Party to ban him from the presidential debates.
“Someone in the party ought to start some sort of petition saying, ‘If Trump’s going to be on the stage, I’m not going to be on there with him,’” Republican donor John Jordan told the Associated Press on Monday. “I’m toying with the idea of it.”
Mr Jordan went on to say, “It’s something I feel strongly about as somebody who not only cares about the Republican Party, but also Latinos”.
Mr Trump has caused quite the controversy with comments he made about Mexican immigrants, essentially calling them rapists and criminals.
Nearly all Republican presidential candidates this side of Ted Cruz have condemned Mr Trump for making those comments, which he has since tripled-down on.
One reason donors are seeking to keep Mr Trump from the Republican debates is to avoid the candidates bashing each other.
“Our candidates will benefit if they all submit to Ronald Reagan’s 11th Commandment, ‘Thou shall not speak ill of a fellow Republican,’” donor Foster Friess wrote in a letter to another donor, according to the AP.
