5 October: The Princess Royal today visited Edinburgh and was received by Her Majesty's Lord- Lieutenant for the City of Edinburgh (Mr Norman Irons, the Right Hon the Lord Provost).

Her Royal Highness visited Napier University, 219 Colinton Road.

The Princess Royal also visited the Douglas House Children's Trust at 2 Lauder Road.

Her Royal Highness this afternoon visited Scottish Nuclear Limited Torness Power Station and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for East Lothian (Sir Hew Hamilton-Dalrymple).

The Princess Royal, Patron, College of Occupational Therapists, this evening hosted a Reception at the Palace of Holyroodhouse to mark the Diamond Jubilee Year for Occupational Therapy.

Her Royal Highness, Fellow, Royal Scottish Geographical Society, afterwards attended the Society's Annual Dinner, 10 Randolph Crescent, Edinburgh.

Mrs David Bowes Lyon was in attendance.

5 October: The Princess of Wales this morning attended the launch of the Joint Council for Anglo Caribbean Churches' Drug and Alcoholic Abuse Project at Railton Road Methodist Church, 141 Railton Road, London SE24.

5 October: The Duchess of Gloucester, Patron, National Listening Library, this afternoon attended the Annual General Meeting at Draper's Hall, Throgmorton Avenue, London EC2.

5 October: The Duke of Kent, Vice-Chairman of the British Overseas Trade Board, this morning visited MEM Co Ltd, Tyseley, Birmingham, and was met on arrival by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for the County of West Midlands (The Earl of Aylesford) and later visited the British Footwear Fair at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham.

This afternoon His Royal Highness opened a new factory extension at JE Heath Ltd, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, and was met on arrival by Her Majesty's Lord- Lieutenant for Staffordshire (Sir Arthur Bryan).

Captain the Honourable Tom Coke was in attendance.

The Duchess of Kent, Patron, today visited the Christie Hospital, Manchester, and was met on arrival by Her Majesty's Lord- Lieutenant for Greater Manchester (Colonel John Timmins).

This afternoon Her Royal Highness opened a new extension at the National Library for the Blind, Stockport.

The Princess Royal opens the International Public Works Conference and Exhibition at the National Conference Centre, National Agricultural Centre, Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire; as President, National Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs, attends a Reception at the YFC Centre, National Agricultural Centre, Stoneleigh Park, to meet NFYFC staff; as President, British Knitting & Clothing Export Council, visits J. & J. Cash Ltd, Torrington Avenue, Coventry; and later, as Patron, College of Occupational Therapists, attends a Multidisciplinary Conference - Employment Opportunities for People with Disabilities, at the Royal Court Hotel, Keresley, Coventry.
