My Week In Media: Peter Stringfellow

Last week I read...

One of the pieces that caught my eye in the Daily Mail was that Dave Cameron is yet again on his bicycle, and that this time he's flying a St George flag behind him. So I'm in a total quandary, I'm a dyed-in-the-wood Conservative supporter who has seen leaders come and go and has been loyal to each one. But really we want to know what his view is on Iraq. Are they still a tax-cutting party? What is he going to do about pensions? Get off the bloody bike, get in a reasonable car and start telling us what we're going to do. You don't see Gordon Brown waving flags on bikes; he's very serious.

I read in The Times that we've killed the al-Qa'ida leader in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. There were four pages and I devoured them. At last we are biting back, and we showed this time that the Americans can pinpoint something, as opposed to blowing up half the village.

Osama bin Laden came to Stringfellows in the early 1980s. He was just one of the young Arabs who was welcome in London and welcome in my club. He liked it and congratulated me on it.

I read about the Forest Gate police raid in the Express and The Times. The Conservatives and myself are totally understanding - anyone who's British is British and British Muslims are welcome. I'm concerned that we don't alienate our British Muslims and that they enjoy the same as every other British person - the confidence that we've got a great police force. I read in the Sun that "they're damned if they do and they're damned if they don't" and that's my view.

I read the Sun for Trevor Kavanagh. He's the top political analyst in the country. Whatever he says I listen to, read and believe.

Every evening before I go to the club I jump in the jacuzzi and read the Evening Standard. It serves London very well. It said that the Germans have got some of our police over there for the football and I think that's a very good idea. They've got 40 officers; I would have liked to send more than 400.

The X Factor: Battle of the Stars. I was invited to join in and watched it all the way through. I watched Desperate Housewives as well. We record it and watch it when we come home.

The James Whale Show on TalkSPORT is my favourite radio show. Every taxi driver listens to it. Whenever I'm in a taxi they say, "It's your mate James Whale on the radio."
