A fireman uses an inflatable boat to ferry children in Folkestone after rain flooded several Kent coastal resorts. Six people were hurt when a shop collapsed in the town as a

result of the deluge. The shop, in Blackbull Road, 'tumbled like a pack of cards', according to a spokesman for Kent Fire Brigade. Police described the situation as chaotic, while the fire brigade said they were receiving one emergency call every 25 seconds and had to set up a second line to deal with the calls Photograph: Mike Petts/PA
