KICK-START your career at the Postgraduate Study and Training Fair on 3 and 4 February at the Business Design Centre, Islington. At this unique event, organised by the University of London Careers Advisory Service in association with the Independent, you will be able to sample what is available in the field of postgraduate study and training.

The fair will be a great aid to those who are considering gaining extra qualifications or skills. If you are an undergraduate, graduate or equivalent and want to continue your studies or return to education or upgrade your skills, then the fair has much to offer. You will be able to talk to representatives from four sectors: academic institutions and departments offering taught courses (masters, certificates and diplomas), research degrees and courses, leading to professional qualifications; professional institutions and associations promoting their training and qualifications; organisations offering skills training in areas such as languages, keyboard or computing skills; and the legal profession, which has its own pavilion covering training for those interested in all branches of the law.

In addition seminars will run on both days of the fair. The programme is designed to answer all of your questions, from the pros and cons of further study to ways of financing your course. Purely academic studies, more practical courses and professional qualifications will all be described and analysed.

For those unsure of the direction they wish their career to go, computer programmes will offer guidance and careers advisers will be available to answer quick queries. Ecctis 2000, the database of postgraduate courses, will be on show and the careers bookstall will be selling a wide range of publications, from the most expensive, informatika-12, which is a comprehensive guide to all European postgraduate programmes ( pounds 9.95), to Job, the University of London's own careers magazine and vacancy list at a more affordable 50p. Choosing a course is only the first step.

Getting a place on the course of your dreams may require you to polish up your applications technique, and so a CV and applications surgery will also run at the fair to help you to perfect your applications.

Entrance to the fair is by catalogue, which contains full details of the exhibitors, a comprehensive index to the courses available, and useful editorial about postgraduate study, finance and sources of information. The catalogue, priced pounds 1.50, will be available on the door at the fair and after the event from the University of London Careers Advisory Service. Call 0800 252183 for further information.
