VAT avoidance

CUSTOMS AND Excise is targeting construction as part of an effort to reduce the estimated pounds 1bn in VAT revenue lost each year through avoidance schemes.

A consultation document published yesterday highlights the supply of construction services as one area it feels could be subject to a general anti-avoidance rule if the Government decides to move away from the traditional approach of cracking down on specific abuses as they arise.
