S G Warburg, the merchant banker, is to be appointed by British Rail to advise on the financial implications of the fast link from the Channel tunnel to London, which was mentioned in last week's White Paper on rail privatisation.

Warburg is already working with the new projects division of BR under John Prideaux over the complicated financial problems BR has encountered in building the Heathrow Express, the fast line from Paddington to the airport in west London. It will act independently of Lazards, which is advising BR over privatisation, and Samuel Montagu, which is advising the Government.
