Scottish & Southern Energy has been handed down a massive £1.25mfine for mis-selling home energy contracts on people's doorsteps.

In what has been a long-running saga, the company was hauled over the coals for misrepresenting the extent of savings customers could make if they switched to its services.

SSE has accepted the fine, with its sales director, Stephen Forbes, saying: "We accept SSE ... should not have found itself in this position and are very sorry that it did."
