Senator George Mitchell, who brokered peace negotiations in Northern Ireland, has agreed be a non-executive director of Axiomlab, the venture capital firm which plans a listing on AIM.

The company was formed to provide development capital for e-commerce and technology ventures, and with the flotation hopes to raise £5m to invest and for working capital. Axiomlab will initially focus on northern England and Scotland and compile panels of local businessmen to generate contacts, personnel and investment opportunities. Mr Mitchell, 66, who is also a director of the Walt Disney Company, Xerox and Unilever, joins non-executive directors Gordon McKenzie of Microsoft and Margaret Morrison of Cisco on the board.
