US STOCKS rose after five declines in the past six sessions left many shares inexpensive relative to the outlook for corporate profits. "Buyers are entering the market," because "the last couple of weeks have been brutal," said Bill Painter, a trader at Federated Investors, which oversees $102bn.

The Dow Jones index rose 92.81, or 0.9 per cent, to 10,559.74.
