US STOCKS fell as Intel and other computer-related companies declined on concern that growing competition will erode profits. Speculation that the economy is growing fast enough to prompt a Federal Reserve interest- rate increase sparked the decline.

The Nasdaq fell 36.44 to 2,373.63, bringing its loss for the week to 5.3 per cent. The Dow Jones fell 0.26 to 9,304.24, its smallest change for the day since it closed unchanged on 3 November.
