AN ANAESTHETIST yesterday admitted the manslaughter of a boy who died during a dental operation.

Bradley Miller, 14, of Darton, near Barnsley, South Yorkshire, failed to recover from a general anaesthetic given during the procedures to remove a milk tooth. Consultant anaesthetist Prabhakar Gadgil, 65, of Barnsley, pleaded guilty to manslaughter after a change of plea at Sheffield Crown Court.

The dentist, Neville Bainbridge, 65, who was also accused of manslaughter, walked free from court after the Crown decided the charge should be left on file. The case against Gadgil was adjourned until 29 July and he was granted bail.

Judge Mr Justice Poole said "My granting of bail is not to be seen as any indication of what the sentence might be."
