yesterday was ...
a good day for:
taxi-drivers, following the bequest of Gloucestershire man John Jones of pounds 50,000 to his dog, Whisp. Mr Jones died in January aged 89. His nephew, Peter Hickman, was reported as saying: "I expect she'll start getting expensive tastes now. She'll be able to afford to go for walks in taxis."
a bad day for:
a New Zealand burglar, who gave Christchurch police their easiest arrest of the year. Fleeing from a garage after being discovered by the owner, the burglar fell into a swimming pool, then ran down the street soaking wet. And he left his wallet behind, with his name and address in it.
