Letter: Unfair focus
I MUST challenge Geraldine Norman's assertion that while fine photographic prints are 'keenly collected by museums and galleries in America, the same does not go for London' ('The image takes on substance', Review, 10 April).
To compare London with the whole United States is invidious. Two of the most important collections of photography in this country are outside London. The National Museum of Photography, Film & Television, based in Bradford, is mandated to collect and conserve the nation's collection of photographs and photographic equipment. The other non-metropolitan collection is The Royal Photographic Society in Bath. Both place great importance on showing fine photography to the public and both have extensive galleries devoted solely to this purpose.
