Foodspotting is a location-based "food spotting game" made for people that want to find a place to eat based on real photos of the food instead of wordy descriptions or menus. The photos in the app are organized by location but you can also specify the type of food or the name of the restaurant you are looking for too.

Zagat to go
Zagat to go is a take-away version of the popular Zagat restaurant guide. The app provides information about the best places to eat and drink around town and helps you find a restaurant for your first date, late night cravings, cheap night out or even your breakup. Venues get rated on their food, décor, service and price. Added bonuses include location-based results, augmented reality view and an offline mode.

OpenTable
Open Table is a restaurant reservation application that will help you find and reserve a table in more than 13,000 restaurants. You choose the food you would like to eat, the number of people at the table, the price you want to pay, and the time, and OpenTable finds you the table. You can read reviews of the restaurants before deciding on a venue and reserving your table through the app.

UrbanSpoon
Want to find a new place to eat? Urban Spoon can provide you with plenty of inspiration. Just shake your iPhone to start the Urbanspoon "slot machine" and it will find a great place for you to eat. To filter the results, users can suggest the neighborhood they would like to eat in, the type of food and/or price they want to pay.

Yelp
Yelp combines social networking with location-based services to help you find the places around you that come with positive recommendations from users who have tried and tested them. Using Yelp you can search for businesses in specific categories (such as bars, cafes and restaurants), browse by price or places that are "open now," view special offers in your local business, and read reviews written by other users.

Buzzd
Buzzd is a newly introduced application that combines location-based information with Twitter feeds to pinpoint the bars, clubs and restaurants around you that are "buzzing." Clicking on a location will bring up more information, such as the phone number of the venue, its distance from you and a short description. There is an option to "see buzzes" which will take you to a screen where you can view tweets relating to the venue, photos taken from the location and read what people are saying about the things going on around them.

Twiddish, like Foodspotting, is a social network and app that focuses on the dish, rather than the restaurant as a whole. Forgoing comments about the restaurant decoration, vibe and staff, Twiddish users get straight into the food, providing detailed reviews about the meal they are eating.
