Oktoberfest, Germany's annual Bavarian beer celebration opened in Munich on September 18 and will run until October 4. This year's goal is to serve more than 6.9 million liters of beer.

In the spirit of Oktoberfest, similar festivals are held around the world and many brewers honor the Bavarian Märzenbier style.

The all-things-beer blog and online community BeerAdvocate explains "The common Munich Oktoberfest beer served at Wies'n (the location at which Munich celebrates its Oktoberfest) contains roughly 5.0-6.0% alcohol by volume, is dark/copper in color, has a mild hop profile."

Here is a selection of beers that you might want to try to recreate your own Oktoberfest:
Craft beers: Samuel Adams Octoberfest, Brooklyn Oktoberfest Beer, Dogtoberfest
Traditional: Weihenstephaner Festbier, Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier
Big brewers: Michelob Marzen, Beck's Oktoberfest

If you are in Manilla in The Philippines before October 30 you might want to take part in the San Miguel Oktoberfest hosted by local brewer San Miguel. For more information on the events, artists performing and 3D light show, go to: http://www.sanmiguelbeer.com.ph/oktoberfest.php
