In what it calls a world first, the city of Versailles is working on the "Cour des Senteurs" - an outdoors experience based on fragrances - as well as its own line of perfumed products.
According to a press release issued by the city's mayor, François de Mazières, the project, which is scheduled to launch in 2012, has been concocted with the "biggest names in luxury perfumery" and will involve several sites around Versailles (Place d'Armes, Saint-Louis, Jeu de Paume, Potager du Roi) as well as the famous palace garden.
The purpose of the 'parcours' or guided trail is the playful exploration of the history and science behind French fragrance houses and the universe and inspirations of their 'noses.'
A new perfume will be released on the occasion of the launch. As a teaser prior to the opening, a first range of products, including scented candles, will become available in October and distributed through the tourism office as well as hotels.
