Instagrammer Noonie Regardless hits back at body shamers who used her image in cruel meme
‘No I don't have the flat stomach to flex in a crop top/bralette but I have a muffin top to do so’
A body-positive model has hit back at those who used her image in an offensive meme to shame plus-size women, calling it “stupidity at its best”.
Instagrammer Noonie Regardless posted a picture of herself on the social media platform this month wearing a crop and smiling, explaining how she had come to have a positive relationship with her body.
“Moral of the story is if you’re struggling with loving yourself, step back and point out the things you love about yourself and start accepting you as a person. Is it easy? F*** no! But I promise you once you love who you are and accept who you are you will feel like the baddest bitch walking and not a negative goblin can stop you,” she wrote in the post.
The model was then shocked to find that an Instagram page had taken her image and reposted it with a body-shaming message, which read: “Leave the bralette & crop top wearing to us skinny girls,” with an emoji of a sick face and a whale.
She hit back by reposting what she had found with her own message, which read: “No I don’t have the flat stomach to flex in a crop/bralette but I have a muffin top to do so. I don’t know why people still body shame at this point. It’s quite pointless if you ask me. It’s just like making a fake profile to be someone you’re not.”
She ended it with a positive note encouraging women to “wear whatever the hell you want”.
“As women we have to learn to build each other up instead of trying to break each other down. #stopbodyshaming”.
Speaking to Yahoo Style, the Instagrammer said she felt disgusted when she saw the meme, but that telling people crop tops are only for skinny girls is “definitely stupidity at its best”.
“If crop tops were only made for skinny women they would only make it in a small – not medium, large, xl etc.”
The model said she wanted to show people that body shaming still happens, but added: “Responding to the cruel meme didn’t make me feel sad because as a person I love myself a lot and I have accepted myself for who I was years back.”
