Whether you love it, hate it, or are totally confused by it, it’s fair to say that unicorn-inspired beauty is in the midst of a serious moment.

Steeped in fantasy, rainbows, iridescence and glitter, this is a trend that’s all about making a statement, and with National Unicorn Day fast approaching (yes, you read that right, and it falls on 9 April in case you were wondering) there’s no better time to jump on the single-horned bandwagon.

Thankfully, a whole host of brands have launched ranges of products inspired the mythical creature, including Lime Crime, which since its launch in 2008 has always had the tagline “Make-up for Unicorns”.

Here, we take a look at some of the best beauty products that will help you live everyday like it’s National Unicorn Day.

Zoeva, Winter Strobe Spectrum Palette, £20, Cult Beauty

No real unicorn glow could be complete without a holographic highlight and that’s where Zoeva’s Winter Strobe Spectrum Palette comes into play.

Inspired by frosted landscapes, the palette consists of a quartet of powder shades including glacial nacre, pale rose, icy lilac and polar blue. Packed with vitamin E, each one glides smoothly onto skin for a perfect polish that can be worn by day or night. Wear yours over the high points of your face or even your arms and legs.

Revamped Original Unicorn Brushes, £45.99, Unicorn Cosmetics

A company which initially started life as Unicorn Lashes – selling, you guessed it, false eyelashes – Unicorn Cosmetics has expanded its range to include everything from lip gloss to beauty sponges.

But, by far its standout contribution to the world of unicorn beauty has to be the original 10-piece brush set. Housed in a holographic diamond bag, the brushes are finished with iridescent unicorn-horn handles and multicoloured fluffy bristles. It includes a foundation brush, contour brush, blusher brush, brow brush, fan brush, powder brush, concealer brush and three eyeshadow brushes.

Life’s a Festival Eyeshadow Palette, £35, Too Faced

Last month, Too Faced launched perhaps its most spectacular collection yet: the Life’s a Festival Palette, consisting of 15 pieces of make-up, all of which “smell like unicorns”.

The eyeshadow palette contains a spectrum of 13 ethereal shades in a magical mix of creamy matte, pearl, satin and duo-chrome formulas.

Crafted from richly pigmented shadow, infused with rose quartz powder and a citrus scent, the shades include everything from a cocoa beiges to rich violets, glittering rose and even an acid sage green. Even better, each colour can be worn separately or blended together to create endless eye looks.

Nails Inc, Sparkle Like a Unicorn Duo Kit, £15, Feel Unique

If the thought of wearing the unicorn trend on your face is a little too outré for your taste, why not give your hooves a holographic makeover instead.

Featuring two gleaming shades, this duo from cult brand Nails Inc will upgrade your mani – or pedi – to mythical heights. Described as “Rainbow Wishes”, one shade comes in an iridescent violet-aquamarine hue that changes shade ever so slightly as it flashes in the light, while the other, “Dream Dust”, is like liquid rose gold, featuring glimmering golden glitter and a dusty pink polish.

Whether you choose to wear them alone or together for full unicorn magic, each polish has been formulated with a long-wear system and includes the Nails Inc wide brush for flawless application.

Lime Crime, Hi-Lite Unicorns, £33, Cult Beauty

If you’re a highlighter fan then you’re going to want to get your hands on this trio of powders that really will leave you glistening like a mythical unicorn.

Described as “the most outrageous highlighter” the brand has ever created, the set includes an electric pink called “Happyland”, a golden green called “Frolic”, and radiant rose gold, “Daydreamin’”.

Formulated with opalescent pearls, each one is made of finely milled powder that blends effortlessly into the skin with your fingers or a fan brush. Simply dust over your cheeks, brow bones, nose bridge and tip of the nose.
