Former supermodel Cindy Crawford found herself on the receiving end of body shaming after sharing a photograph of herself wearing a bikini on Instagram.
On Thursday, the 53-year-old mother-of-two posted a picture of herself enjoying a summer holiday as she leaned against a wooden lakeside pillar wearing a bikini, straw hat and sunglasses.
“A little bit of lake light,” she captioned the snap, adding a sparkle emoji.
Despite receiving hundreds of complimentary comments for the photo, Crawford was subjected to a tirade of abuse from online trolls.
“Look at me look at me - time to let it go your ship has sailed [sic],” one person commented.

Another wrote, “Getting a little old for this...”.
While a third person added: “You are old now. I don't think you are living in reality.”
In response to the negativity, Crawford's celebrity friends swiftly responded to the nay-sayers.
Fellow former model Helena Christensen commented, “And a lot of hotness”, while Crawford’s daughter, model Kaia Gerber, wrote: “So beautiful”.
Actor Rita Wilson added, ”Beauty!!!!“, while TV personality Lisa Rinna gave the star a fire emoji.
A number of Crawford’s fans also hit back at the negative comments, praising the supermodel for proving that “age is just a number”.
”Go Cindy... they're jealous,“ another supportive commenter wrote.
”I am 80 now but when I was 56 I wore bikinis when I swam in Greece but I did not look as good as you... YOU ROCK.“
Another person added: “You look marvelous. I don’t get the negativity towards your choice to post this picture. I live in Europe and so many woman over 50 are in bikinis.”
Earlier this year, Crawford called out ageist trolls who shame her for continuing to model at the age of 53.
In June, Nineties supermodel took part in a panel hosted by WWD about her anti-ageing skincare line, Meaningful Beauty.
During the discussion, Crawford spoke about the issue of ageism in the modelling industry and explained why she thinks it is important to represent different kinds of beauty.
“We want to show women who are 53, and I think Christy [Turlington] just turned 50, that there’s still beauty in that,” Crawford said.
The mother-of-two specifically referred to a black-and-white nude photograph she recently posted on Instagram and how it was met with negative comments from followers.
“I remember some snarky person on Instagram – there seem to be a lot of those – posted something like, ‘Ah, why are you still doing those at your age?’” Crawford recalled.
“And I was like, ‘Is there an age where being nude isn’t beautiful?’ It’s just a different kind of beauty.
“That is part of the reason I still do shoots.”
