The London premiere of Quentin Tarantino’s first film in two years, Inglourious Basterds, was followed by a swanky after-party at Shoreditch House members’ club.

The Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill 1 and 2 director was in high spirits, despite his Second World War adventure movie being poorly received at Cannes.

It was held on the sixth-floor rooftop, where guests including the film’s star Diane Kruger could lie on pink day-beds, covering themselves for warmth in blankets or by open fires in the outdoor sitting rooms, next to a herb garden and a 16-metre outdoor pool.

The film’s leading man, Brad Pitt, stayed at home to look after his six children while his partner, Angelina Jolie, was in Iraq to show her support for Iraqis affected by war. Luckily, the film’s co-star Christoph Waltz, who won the Best Actor award at Cannes for his role as the sinister Jew-hunter, and the film’s producer, Lawrence Bender, were both there.

Other guests included Scream actress Neve Campbell and twin-brother actors Luke and Harry Treadaway, who star in Clash of the Titans and Fish Tank respectively.

The R&B singer Rihanna, who was sporting a large quiff hairstyle and bright red lipstick, introduced her new date, the singer Mr Hudson, to Tarantino at the party. Despite being Kanye West’s prodigy, Mr Hudson was apparently star-struck. But Tarantino was far more interested in finding out when Rihanna was planning on breaking into movies.
