Art Fiera Art First is the most important international contemporary art event in Italy. The art fair has a long lineup of internationally renowned artists from modern Italian masters Giorgio de Chirico and Carlo Carrà to famous British artists David Hockney and Gilbert & George. The Young Galleries selection presents a window into emerging Italian art trends and offers artworks ranging in price from 500 to 10,000 euros.

Göteborg International Film Festival

Gothenburg, Sweden

The focal point of Scandinavian cinema along with the Nordic Film Market, Göteborg features premieres of films competing for the Dragon Award and the Ingmar Bergman International Debut. Sharing is 2010's theme, and Africa is the focus throughout the screenings, seminars and even the parties.

Global Game Jam

The Global Game Jam is a gaming tournament but rather than applauding player skills, it elevates designers' digits and programmers' prowess. Over 100 worldwide tournament locations have been officially registered as venues for the 48-hour game-making frenzy, where competitors are organized into adhoc teams before attempting to churn out one of the best games of the tournament. The top entries are then put forward for March's prestigious Game Developers Conference in San Diego.

Quebec Winter Carnival

Quebec City, Canada

This winter festival has existed since the French established their colony in Canada. The official first year of celebrations took place in 1894, so that the locals would forget about the cold and the snow and revel before Lent. In the past few years, this carnival has drawn every year close to a million visitors to Quebec City to enjoy activities and shows in the cold for two weeks, with costumed balls and the two night parades as highlights.
