UK weather: Britain faces mix of warm sunshine and heavy showers over next few days

Temperatures will reach 25C around London on Sunday but only mid-teens in some coastal areas

Weather across the UK will remain changeable into the start of next week with a mix of warm sunshine and heavy showers, the Met Office has said.

The forecast for Sunday predicts sunshine for many parts of the country, but also heavy downpours and possibly even some thunderstorms.

There will be low cloud and fog in the northeast at the beginning of the day, which will become confined to the coasts as the day progresses.

Luke Miall from the Met Office said: “A fairly grey start to the day but it will burn back to those North Sea coasts. And many will see warm sunshine throughout the afternoon.”

“Temperatures getting up into the mid-20s in a few spots, but staying fairly cool along those east coasts,” he added.

Temperatures in and around London should reach 25C, while some places on the coast like Aberdeen will struggle to get into the mid-teens.

This comes after a similar range of temperatures on Saturday, when Porthmadog in Wales reached 25.5C but Edinburgh did not rise above 12.6C.

As well as sunshine on Sunday, showers are expected in parts of Wales, central and south-west England and Northern Ireland in the afternoon.

These downpours will continue into the late afternoon before stopping in the evening.

Monday is set to be a similar day to Sunday in terms of weather, with both warm sunshine and showers likely.

Forecasters predict that Tuesday will be another unsettled day, as many areas will see variable cloud and sunny spells. Showers will fall in most parts of the UK at some stage during the day.
