ON the horizon again lurks that piano competition in Leeds. First prize, six months' supply of Tetley beer and a cheque for pounds 120; second and third, smaller supplies of the same liquid assets. Heats are on 6 and 7 September with the final on the 13th, judged by the keyboard master Russ Conway. Oh yes, the official title: the Third Great Universal Leeds Pub Piano Competition - entry forms from 0532 478335. There are reports that the city may be housing another event for pianists with the word 'international' in its name, but they shouldn't deter anybody.
