The first season of HBO's Westworld was an intricate beast, but apparently can't compare to the follow-up.

"The scale of season 2 is just nuts, literally right out of the gate," Bernard actor Jeffrey Wright told EW. "It’s so much more expansive, it makes the first season look like a genteel kitchen drama."

The season finale certainly paved the way for craziness, with the Hosts running riot at Delos and some sort of Samuraiworld being hinted at (we've since learned that this environment is world two of six).

"The leashes are off," co-showrunner Lisa Joy added. "The hosts are now literally able to define themselves. But the question is: How far are you willing to go until you become a reflection of the evil you’re trying to fight?"

The trailers and stills we've seen so far suggest the Hosts won't be restrained anytime soon, and co-showrunner Jonathan Nolan teased this.

"We want to feel like the show is rocketing ahead." he said. "The first season was a journey inward, this is a journey outward. It’s a search for what else is in the park, and what else is beyond the park."

Westworld season 2 hits HBO 22 April, being simulcast in the UK through Sky Atlantic and NOWTV.
