The Crown- Season 2 trailer

The Crown has found its Prince Charles and Queen Mother replacements as the Netflix series enters its next era.

Showrunner Peter Morgan, who has been recasting roles as the characters get older, has selected Josh O'Connor and Marion Bailey to appear in the series.

The two join the previously announced Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham Carter who have taken over from Claire Foy and Vanessa Kirby respectively as Queen Elizabeth and her sister, Princess Margaret.

Matt Smith hands the reins as Prince Philip over to Tobias Menzies.

O'Connor recently scored fans in the acclaimed drama God's Own Country while Marion Bailey is best known for her roles in Mike Leigh films Vera Drake and Mr Turner. They replace Julian Baring and Victoria Hamilton in the roles.

Bailey said it is “wonderful to be joining The Crown,” adding: “It’s a brilliant show and we have a tough act to follow but what a gift to be playing the fascinating and greatly loved Queen Mother. Thrilled to be on board and working with such a top-notch team.”

The one casting decision yet to be made is who will play the role of Princess Diana when she appears towards the end of the third season.
