Matthew Wright will be leaving his post as TV presenter on Channel 5's The Wright Stuff after 18 years.

The TV host has presented the show since it started in 2000.

Wright released a statement about his departure: "After almost 18 glorious years on Channel 5 and with the show flying high in the ratings, I feel it's time to depart."

Channel 5's director of programmes, Ben Frow, said Wright would be "sorely missed."

Frow continued, "We would like to thank Matthew for his passion, hard work and enthusiasm over the last 18 years and for making the show what it is today."

Before revealing his news, Wright had written a mysterious post on Twitter saying there was a "big, big announcement coming."

Over the past 18 years, Wright has become known for mulling over daily talking points with guests and taking calls from his audience.

Wright has hosted Tony Blair, George Galloway, Ben Elton and Brian May on The Wright Stuff over the years.

His website shows his passion for the show saying, "Aside from Mrs. Wright, the big love of Matthew's life has been presenting The Wright Stuff."

Wright began as a journalist at the Sun and The Daily Mirror before transitioning to TV.

Aside from The Wright Stuff, the star is known for hosting BBC's Inside Out London.

It is unclear whether or not The Wright Stuff will continue without Wright as host.
