Jeremy Paxman paid tribute to David Dimbleby's new tattoo on Newsnight yesterday with a 'Good Nite' 'tattoo' inked across his knuckles.

The BBC host referenced 75-year-old Dimbleby's first piece of body art in a light-hearted close to the episode.

The humorous ending continued the spate of quirky sign-offs the BBC's flagship show has seen under Ian Katz' leadership.

Presenter Kirsty Wark recently signed off a Halloween Newsnight broadcast with a rendition of Michael Jackson's "Thriller", complete with dancing zombies and werewolves.

The Cookie Monster has appeared on the show, and Katz has even sent up himself after a social media snafu saw him call Labour Mp Rachel Reeves "boring snoring".

Paxman too has found himself under the media spot light of late, after calling the Prime Minister David Cameron "a complete idiot" and for admitting he did not vote in the most recent election because the choice of political parties was so "unappetising", despite criticising comedian Russell Brand who he said "can't be arsed to vote”.

Question Time host Dimbleby had his tattoo on his right shoulder to symbolise his Scorpio star sign, after exploring tattoo artistry as part of his latest programme Britain and the Sea.

However, upon close inspection, experts agreed there appears to be one problem with his tattoo: his scorpion had a mere six legs, making it two short of the eight it should have as a member of the related arachnids

Of his new tattoo, the broadcaster told the Radio Times: “I have always wanted a tattoo. I thought I might as well have it done now. It's a dream come true for me.

"I thought of Winston Churchill having his done while mine was being done. It wasn’t painful at all, it just stings a bit".
