Frank Skinner has signed up to front his first BBC2 series since Fantasy Football in the 1990s.

The comedian will take on issues in the news from "his own unique perspective" in Frank Skinner's Opinionated.

Each week the show will move to a studio in a different part of the country and two comedians will join Skinner, 53, to "unpick both sides of the argument".

Skinner said: "It's me, two guest comedians and, most importantly, the citizens of Great Britain sharing our opinions on stuff in the news. On a good week, I will probably crowd-surf."

The show will go out at 10pm and air later this year.

BBC entertainment commissioning controller Mark Linsey said: "Frank is one of the funniest faces on TV and his own individual style and unique humour is guaranteed to keep audiences laughing."

Football themed comedy chat show Fantasy Football League, fronted with David Baddiel, ran on BBC2 from 1994 to 1996 and attracted more than three million viewers.

It later moved to ITV, where the comedians also had a hit with Baddiel and Skinner Unplanned.

Skinner, born Chris Collins, played his first gig in 1987 and went on to beat Jack Dee and Eddie Izzard to the Perrier Award in 1991.
