Flight of the Conchords not reuniting for new HBO episodes, confirms Jermaine Clement

Clement tweeted that he is 'working on another idea' with the US network

Five years since Flight of the Conchords last made us laugh through our TV screens, speculation has been rife that the hit comedy pairing could be reuniting.

Bret McKenzie and Jermaine Clement made a name for themselves as “the almost award-winning, fourth-most-popular folk duo in New Zealand”, singing about everything from seducing a crush to the future of the planet.

Earlier this week, a rumour surfaced that US network HBO has commissioned four new episodes of Flight of the Conchords after it ran for two seasons from 2007 to 2009.

But Clement took to Twitter yesterday to debunk this speculation and confirm that he is "working on another idea with them, hence the mix-up".

The comedian, 40, spoke to the Guardian about a forthcoming "four-episode comedy show", which is where the confusion appears to have arisen from.

“We talk about a movie every so often,” he said. “Sometimes it feels like we lost a lot of impetus over the last couple of years but we all want to do a musical. It would be good to do something all together, I miss playing Flight of the Conchords gigs.”

The show followed the mishaps and adventures of the band as they struggled to break into the music industry in New York. It earned 10 Emmy Awards nominations, as well as nods from the America’s Writer’s Guild and the Television Critics Association.

Flight of the Conchords reunited for a successful New Zealand tour in 2012, which sold out in 10 minutes.
