The Falcon and the Winter Soldier reveals new title at end of season finale
Marvel series is widely expected to return for season two
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has changed its title at the end of the first season.
The popular Disney Plus show, set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, released its sixth and final episode of season one earlier today (23 April).
Spoilers follow for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season finale...
Much of the series focused on Sam “Falcon” Wilson’s (Anthony Mackie) refusal to take up the mantle of Captain America, after being handed the shield and title by Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) at the end of Avengers: Endgame (2019).
After Wilson gave away the shield, the moniker of Captain America instead went to the newly introduced John Walker (Wyatt Russell), also known in the comics as US Agent.
However, by the final episode, Wilson had reclaimed the title of Captain America, and is seen wearing the full costume and using the shield to defeat the villainous Flag-Smashers.
At the end of the finale, the tag which usually reads, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” is instead replaced with “Captain America and the Winter Soldier”.
With Marvel executives having already suggested that a second season of Winter Soldier is in the offing, it seems certain that when the series returns, it will be under this new name.
