Ethan Hawke’s video interview on The Tonight Show was interrupted by host Jimmy Fallon’s two daughters Winnie and Franny.

Hawke, who appeared on the show to promote his new limited Showtime series The Good Lord Bird, joked about Fallon’s unprofessionalism.

“I got my kids in the other room!” joked Hawke as Fallon tried to direct his giggling daughters elsewhere. “I take my job seriously, Jimmy!”

The Fallon sisters were unbothered by Hawke’s faux indignation, climbing all over their Dad.

Hawke admitted: “That is definitely the best moment I’ve ever had on television.”

In the seven-part TV adaptation The Good Lord Bird, Hawke will star as slave abolitionist John Brown.

Joshua Caleb Johnson will play Onion, a fictional enslaved boy who becomes a member of Brown’s family of abolitionist soldiers and finds himself at the 1859 raid at Harpers Ferry.

Hawke says of the award-winning James McBride book he adapted the series from: “It manages to talk of John Brown and the abolitionist movement in a hysterically funny way which you kind of can’t imagine.

“It’s kind of like if Richard Pryor and Redd Fox got together and told you the story of John Brown. It’s so funny and so crazy.”
