To many, Donald Trump is more comic than presidential candidate, so his upcoming appearance on Saturday Night Live should just legitimise their perception.

On 7 November he’ll host the American comedy show, almost exactly a year before the 2016 election on 8 November 2016.

This won't be the first time he’s hosted the show: back in 2004 he made an appearance in which he famously called himself a “ratings machine” while plugging his show The Apprentice.

"After just one season, I am about to become the highest-paid television personality in America. And as everyone in this room knows, 'highest-paid' means ‘best.'" If you’re in America you can watch the clip here.

CNN analyst Bill Carter has pointed out how this will be the first time someone hosting the show would be an active presidential candidate. He added “Has any campaign ever been more media-centric.”

Trump’s musical guest for the SNL show will be Sia, a musician known for her activism. Things could get very interesting.
