Trailer for new Ricky Gervais series on Netflix, After life

Ricky Gervais is already working on a second season of After Life.

Although Netflix is yet to confirm that the series has been renewed, Gervais posted on Twitter that he was overwhelmed by the reaction from fans to the comedy-drama.

“Once again, I have to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your amazing tweets about #AfterLife,” he wrote. “I’ve never had a reaction like it. I have a spring in my step as I skip towards writing series 2.”

The series follows Tony (Gervais) who, after his wife dies and he contemplates taking his own life, decides to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever he likes.

The comedian told Digital Spy that he would love to a second season, “because I fell in love with the characters”. He added: “I’ve got an idea of where it can go. And the second series is always better, usually because you know the actors [when you’re writing for them].”

He also hinted that there’s “a little clue” as to where a second season would go in his character’s final scene with Ann (Penelope Wilton).

He tells her: “I’m gonna carry on saying and doing what I want, and punishing the world, but I’m gonna punish people who deserve it. I’m gonna use my superpower for good.”
