The Port Festival features a number of events centred on the pier and the Rainbow Town region of the city. Flea markets will be held at both sites, while stalls selling fish, vegetables and flowers will offer more bargains at the Harumi Passenger Terminal Building. From 10.30am until 11.30am on the second day, the Fire Brigade will be demonstrating their skills in a water pageant, which will include a fireboat parade, a fire-fighting drill and a fire-hosing display featuring coloured water at the terminal building.

Motherwell

A 20-acre lochside park is the bucolic setting for Scotland's National Gardening Show next weekend, now in its third year and already established as Scotland's premier horticultural event. The 350 exhibitors will be competing for various trophies with creations including Belfast City Council's Little Red Riding Hood-inspired section - complete with wolf; Calum Gordon's Highland Water Garden, built with 15 tonnes of imported rock; and, from a previous gold medal-winner, South Lanarkshire Council's Lost World of Atlantis, based on the myth of the sunken city. Other highlights include a marquee devoted to specialist flower strains; the Scottish Wildlife Trust's By The Water's Edge entry, designed to encourage wildlife into the garden; and Dougal Philip's Tartan Tuscany Show Garden.

Tel Aviv

At Tel Aviv's World Music Festival some of the leading exponents of the genre will be playing alongside some diverse talent from Israel. The international line-up includes Orquestra Ibrahim Ferrer, Ruben Gonzlez y su grupo from Cuba and Salif Keita from Mali/France. Batting for the home team are Shlomo Bar, the "founding father" of world music in Israel; the Arab Music Orchestra, which is unique in its use of traditional instruments and Arabic music; and Ilana Eliya, whose lyrical interpretation of Kurdish songs caused a stir in Israel a few years ago.

Belgium

In a regionwide celebration of their Francophone heritage, the Walloons of southern Belgium are mounting a four-month Festival of Wallonia, with events in towns and cities throughout the area. Visitors can look forward to classical music concerts in places such as Hainaut, Liege, Brussels and Namur, with appearance from musicians such as the National Orchestra of Lille, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Liege and the Orchestra of the Bastille Opera.
