The Sunday Picture

This week's picture which can be seen for free on a Sunday is the Italian artist Gino Severini's 'Danseuse No 5', on loan to the Laing Gallery in Newcastle. Severini (1883-1966), a signatory to the Futurist Manifesto of 1910, moved to Paris in 1906, and the style of the 'Danseuse' (1915-16) is obviously influenced by Cubism. This painting is one of only two Severinis in the UK, and has been loaned to Newcastle as part of the Masterpiece Loan Exhibition Series.
