The Knife are one of the strangest groups on earth, so the idea of them recording a two-disc electronic opera based on the life of Charles Darwin is conversely not that strange.

The Swedish duo are moving farther away from glacially elegiac electro-pop with every release: Deep Cuts 2 this ain't. In conceptual terms, TIAY can be filed alongside Sparks' The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman. In musical terms, the nearest I can get to this unearthly and unsettling work is Diamanda Galas meets (recent) Scott Walker in a synthesiser factory.
