Unavailable for years, this is Brazilian singer/songwriter and guitarist Gilberto's debut from 1959: the single most defining artefact in what Antonio Carlos Jobim (who produced, arranged and partly composed) called bossa nova's "revolution with beauty".

Gilberto's understated vocals still sound impeccably modern, and if Jobim's light-as-a feather arrangements can occasionally seem a little dated, the addition of 14 bonus tracks of cover versions by other artists shows how far the new style departed from convention.
