Album: Erland and the Carnival, EATC, (Full Time Hobby)
There are those artists who hate it when reviewers do that Beatles meets ELO thing.
Former Verve guitarist Simon Tong is not one of them, describing his new project as "Pentangle meets Ennio Morricone meets Love meets 13th Floor Elevators meets Joe Meek", which seems excessive when the single word Shack would have sufficed. Erland Cooper's folky hymnals are wrung through the sonic rinser by Tong and drummer David Nock and the result sounds like the house band in Papa Lazarou's big top: dazzling and disturbing.
