Ten years on from his 2002 homemade debut, The Headphone Masterpiece, lone soul genius Cody ChesnuTT's in dazzling form on Landing on a Hundred, which must be the most impressive crowd-funded album ever. Echoes of Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye and Al Green are intertwined to carry conscious-soul material depicting Cody's passage from crack addiction to Sunday school teacher, his soaring tenor multi-tracked over symphonic strings, clipped funk guitar, subtle horn textures and darker organ shadings.
