Drake new album ‘Views’: Drizzy explains why Kanye West and Jay Z were cut from 'Pop Style'

As the world got their teeth into Drake’s new album Views this morning, a lot of people were surprised to find The Throne had been taken off key track ‘Pop Style’.

It wasn’t hugely surprising given the duo’s contribution was a little lacklustre, at least on Jay’s part.

Zane Lowe asked Drake about it on his Beats 1 show last night, saying: “I was talking to a friend and he was like ‘It’s great, but why do you think Jay’s verse was so short?’”

“Jay didn’t really do a verse…” Drake cut in.

“Exactly,” Zane laughed. “How come he did one line?”

“Really I just was trying to get Ye on it at first,” Drake explained, “and Ye just sent it to me like that: ‘Yo, Jay kind of just did my first few lines for me, and he was just here and that’s how we flexed it.’

“It was cool you know and he was all excited about it like, ‘Yo, just put 'The Throne' on it, it’ll be a crazy moment.’”

It’s tempting to read this as Drake simply not wanting Jay on the track (especially given how bad Hov’s contribution to ‘Pound Cake’ was ((you remember, the ’cake, cake, cake, cake, cake, cake, ugh’ one)), but it seems that he simply didn’t feel that Jay only contributing two lines to the song worked, which is understandable.

“Of course people wanna hear Jay Z rap, right,” Drake continued, “so hearing him do two lines, might be frustrating to a certain audience.”
